19. Lewis Cody

Lewis Cody

(1884-1934)

Lewis was one the more popular stars of Hollywood, starring in over 50 silent movies, primarily in 'cad' or 'rogue' roles.

He was married to friend and co-worker Mabel Normand from 1926 to 1930.

Had Lewis remained healthy, he probably would have continued a very successful film career, but he was very ill his last five years and made few films during that time.

The top and left side of this borderless 7 1/4" x 9 1/4" vintage matte sepia has been trimmed.

Cody's inscription "To the Lillian Lorrainne of the Keystone Dutch Players. He Dares Anything / from Lewis J. Cody".

(Lillian Lorrainne was an actress from 1915 to 1922.)

The inscription runs partially through a darker area resulting in mixed contrast but is overall very good.

Very scarce due to Cody's early death and especially so with such a large inscription in Cody's flamboyant writing style.

Tack holes(3) at top center and bottom corners. There is a 1" crease in the center of the photo affecting part of the the image and another crease is in the background area near the left edge.

Price: $150
