72. Eugene Pallette

Eugene Pallette

(1889-1954)

In a career that began in 1913 and ended with his illness in 1948, Eugene Pallette either starred or had supporting roles in many films.

Eugene Pallette's early roles were as a slim romantic lead. After his return from service in WW I, most of his work was in supporting roles. Although some of these roles were good, he was dissatisfied with bit parts and decided to gain weight to attract more attention. He was successful in both objectives, his weight reached 300 pounds and he became very much in demand as a character actor.

Some of Eugene's more noteworthy early roles were in "Birth of a Nation"(1915) and "Intolerance"(1916).  His later roles were in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939), "The Mark of Zorro"(1940), "The Lady Eve"(1941) and "Heaven Can Wait"(1943).

The photo, 4 3/4" x 6 3/4", was probably trimmed (neatly) from 5" x 7".

The inscription "For Miss McClurg / Sincerely / Eugene Pallette" is in a darker area of the photo, resulting in poor contrast.

There are no holes or mounting residue. The low price is due to the inscription's poor contrast.

Price: $ 55
