2. Vilma Banky

Vilma Banky

(1898-1991)

Vilma was born in Budapest where she was living when her beauty caught the eye of Sam Goldwyn. He brought her to Hollywood in the early 1920's and she soon became known as the "Hungarian Rhapsody".

Vilma starred opposite Rudolph Valentino in "The Eagle"(1925) and "The Son of the Sheik"(1926). She also co-starred with Ronald Colman in five films. They were an excellent team.

Although she did make one movie in the 1932, Vilma's career ended in 1929 with the advent of sound; her heavy accent was too difficult for audiences to understand.  She was married to actor Rod LaRocque from 1929 until his death in 1969.

This 8 1/2"x11" letter typed on Sam Goldwyn letterhead stationary was signed in black ink by Vilma Banky and can be dated as 1926 or early 1927 based on its' film references.

The interesting content mentions, in addition to her movies, both Ronald Colman and director Henry King.

The letter has one horizontal fold and is in excellent condition with a bold signature.
