Carl Sandburg

(1878-1967)

Sandburg, author of much, was also known as a biographer of Abraham Lincoln and serious collector of Lincoln related material.  Of his writings, one of the highest acclaimed and best known is "Abe Lincoln: The War Years"(1939) which he refers to in this letter.

 

This letter is typed on Sandburg's 8.5" x 11" stationary with his name and "Harbert, Michigan" embossed at the top.

Written a year after publication, Sandburg provides a very important and interesting commentary on his approach and concerns while writing the 'war Lincoln', his most successful and acclaimed work.

The usual folds and an 'X' inked at the top, otherwise in fine condition and with a strong dark signature.
